Have your own question? Contact us so we can answer it!
Are Swanson's apples coated in wax?
No, our apples are naturally bright, colorful, and shiny thanks to the ideal growing conditions in the Bitterroot Valley of Montana. They are simply washed with mountain-fresh water and dried before being sold — no wax needed!
What are the health benefits of eating apples?
Apples are a great source of fiber, vitamin C, and antioxidants, making them a nutritious choice for a healthy diet. Plus, the saying might be true — an apple a day can help support overall wellness and keep the doctor away!
How much fruit is used to make Swanson’s apple cider?
It takes approximately one 800-pound bin of our apples to produce 50 gallons of fresh-pressed apple cider.
How are Swanson’s apple trees watered?
Our apple trees are gravity-fed via sprinklers from a canal located above our orchard. The water in the canal comes from Lake Como in Darby, Montana.
How do you prevent bruising during apple harvesting?
Apples bruise easily, so our harvest crews take extra care by picking them with their palms instead of their fingers to keep them in top condition.
Which apple variety is the most popular?
Our McIntosh apples are the favorite among both adults and children, beating out all other varieties we offer.
What is Swanson’s redevelopment program?
In 2023, we planted over 2,000 new Ruby McIntosh trees as part of our ongoing orchard redevelopment program to ensure the future of our apple production.
How do you improve pollination in the orchard?
In 2024, we planted over 225 new crabapple trees throughout our Ruby McIntosh plantings to enhance pollination compatibility.
Why are bees important to the orchard?
Bees play a vital role in cross-pollination each year, as they transfer pollen between blossoms, allowing fruit to develop. Without them, we wouldn’t have an apple crop!
